The project I looked at was called Inventing Abstraction by MOMA(Museum of Modern Art). It visually illustrates the relationships between various figures responsible for the development of abstract art with the goal of showing how the movement was the result of a vast network of visionaries.
The nodes consist of the selected people, ex. Claude Debussy, Pablo Picasso. The edges indicate that two people had a documented relationship.
The site allows one to hover over any one of the people and it will highlight the edges that are associated with that person. One can also click on a person and one will be brought to a page with only the person’s node, their connections, and additional information on the person. I found this to be a really cool feature; it makes it much easier to visualize the relationships and dig deeper into an individual.
